Solo Clarinet

Clarinet Concert For you

They began recording the concerts the second week of COVID lockdown in New York City. Soon after friends began sending them drones to perform with. Each day features a drone in a new key by a different artist, cycling up the chromatic scale. The music provided solace and grounding for Bogie and his community.

Over the summer, drones were contributed by dozens of artists including Colin Stetson, Matt Bauder, Scott Deverdorf, Domenica Fosatti, Peter Murray, Ryan Sawyer, Daniel Mintseries, Mike Dillon, Dina Maccabbee, Tim Kingsbury, Korey Richey, Sam Cohen, Cameron Ralston, Grey McMurry, MC Taylor, Craig Finn and James Murphy. Four volumes of concerts have been compiled and more releases are forthcoming.

Another outgrowth of the solo clarinet music was a collaboration with longtime friends Arcade Fire on “Memories of the Age of Anxiety” which was exclusively released through the app Headspace.

The Bogie Band feat. Joe Russo is a collaboration between long time friends Joe Russo and Stuart Bogie. The group features nine musicians playing wind and percussion instruments. The dynamic arrangements are built on the flowing propulsion of Russo’s drumming alternating through transcendental minimalism, raucous humor, and a revelatory joy that draws on each of the 9 musicians ability to creatively solo and contribute to the rhythmic mass of the ensemble. The 10 piece ensemble debuted live at the Winter Jazzfest, NYC, in January of 2020 then re-emerged post-lockdown for a rousing performance at The Newport Jazz Festival (2021) which Jazztimes called “Mesmerizing waves of harmony and rhythm overlapped each other, like a mashup of Fela Kuti, Sun Ra, and King Crimson—with (more) tuba! And (sometimes) multiple flutes! An energized frontman, Bogie went from conducting the band to conducting its listeners…”. The group has since released their debut LP “The Prophets in the City” in March of 2022 on the label Royal Potato Family—Relix wrote, “The music is a study in contrasts: at once aggressive and patient, instrumental yet lyrical. It is also simultaneously structured and free-wheeling, equally jubilant and foreboding.”

The group features Elizabeth Pupo-Walker (Allison Russell, The Dap-Kings) and Reinaldo De Jesus (Antibalas) on percussion, Adam Roberts on double bass, Will Graefe on guitar, and Stuart Bogie (Antibalas, Arcade Fire) on clarinet.
